Arkham Asylum is a third person action game that thoroughly immerses you in the twisted and dark world that Batman protects. You are placed in the cape, cowl and utility belt of the Dark Knight himself, and forced to face the asylum’s violent and psychopathic inmates. Everyone knows that most comic book and films that are made into games are…well, crap. You could assume that Batman: Arkham Asylum, being a mix between the darker comics and the new films, would be the worst of the worst. But you would be wrong. Very wrong... CANDY RATING 7/10

Fighting games are back in the limelight and SNK are back with King of Fighters XII, with a complete overhaul of the series, taking it in a completely new direction. Unlike Street Fighter 4, KOF12 uses a three-on-three dynamic that sets it apart from the competition. The game play, combat system and characters, have had a complete overhaul. It takes a bit of getting used to if you’re an old fan like me, but it’s just what SNK needed to compete with the competition in the era of wide screen HD TV’s. CANDY RATING 6/10

MUSIC REVIEWS // Melanie Fiona // Nneka
Melanie Fiona’s much anticipated debut album, The Bridge, indicates a turnaround in R&B.

The Canadian R&B singer/songwriter opened up for Kanye West on the European leg of his 2008 tour and has steadily been creating a buzz ever since.

The first single release from The Bridge, “Give It to Me Right”, has become a regular on radio DJ’s play lists and sets the high standard for the rest of the album. While “Give It to Me Right” is more of a classic R&B tune with some added soul, the rest of the album is a surprise if you expect The Bridge to be just another R&B album.

The Bridge is an album you could play to anyone; the eclectic mix of genres and styles ensures that this album stands tall in one of R&B’s most difficult periods.

Nneka is a rising star from Nigeria. Mixing reggae, hip-hop and soul she has been compared to Lauryn Hill. There are some similarities, but with her politically conscious mind that is entrenched in her roots as a Nigerian, you get a totally different look and sound. Her performance at Cargo on the 23rd July was absolutely off the hook; energy, crowd banter and that X factor, she is one to definitely look out for. Her album No Longer at Ease (2009) is definitely one for the I-pod.
